Antibacterial Activity of <i>Phyllanthus</i><i> </i><i>Amarus</i> (Schum and Thonn) Extract Against <i>Salmonella </i><i>Typhi</i> Causative Agent of Typhoid Fever

The study was conducted to assess the antibacterial activity of Phyllanthus amarus (Schum and Thonn) extract against Salmonella typhi causative agent typhoid fever at laboratories Departments Chemistry Theoretical Applied Biology College Science, Kwame Nkrumah University Science Technology, Kumasi. objectives were determine highest yield crude P. using different proportions water ethanol sensitivity these. Three extraction procedures carried out. In first procedure, seven setups each containing two (water ethanol) used with 10g plant sample. second eight for solvents. Ten grams both fresh dry sample extracted in 200ml another water; 20g again extracted. same procedure repeated as solvent. third boiled 100ml 30 minutes. A test zones inhibition various extracts done on isolated from human. Results only had 2.57g, followed by which 2.52g. studies indicated that aqueous inhibited S. a zone 5.00mm 10g/200ml 7.17mm 20g/200ml. Ethanol also recorded an 2.67mm 5.33mm 20g/200ml respectively. Again, samples showed 7.33mm 13.50mm Also 6.83mm 10.50mm Significant differences observed among control concentrations (P<0.05). Aqueous proved inhibitory typhi.
